Systems & Services
II. Students understand the systems and technologies that facilitate the management and use of information resources to serve the diverse needs of users.
II.a. Students identify and analyze diverse information needs of individuals and communities.

LIS6511: Media Collection Needs Assessment
The Media Collection Needs Assessment was a project I completed with four of my classmates. In order for the library to meet the needs of students, there must be an understanding of the school population demographics. We discovered that although roughly 25% of the students were Hispanic, books in Spanish constituted less than 1% of the library collection. This showed my fellow group members and me that the collection would need to be updated.

LIS6603: Answering Reference Questions
Dr. Austin provided us with a list of questions patrons might ask at the reference desk of a library. We chose six to answer, explaining the precise steps we would take to assist the patrons. I was able to practice the use of advanced search parameters, including Boolean operators, in answering a diverse range of queries.
II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.

LIS6564: Reading Project Part III
Selecting print and digital information materials for a school library that meet users' needs requires thorough research. I chose 10 transitional books for this list, as well as 15 upper elementary books. The books I included vary in reading level and character demographics.

LIS5566: Native American Top 5 Book List
One of the most underrepresented population groups in children's literature is Native Americans. I chose to represent this group with my book selections because it is important to diversify school library collections. This assignment offers my top five recommendations of books by and about Native Americans.
II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.
LIS6603: LibGuide: The Life of Roald Dahl
For this assignment, I created a library guide about author Roald Dahl. Dr. Austin taught me about the value of library guides as reference tools for information seekers. My library guide includes text, embedded videos, book recommendations, and website links for students and teachers.

LIS5566: Diversity in Youth Literature Toolkit
In this toolkit, I created a resource set for six diverse groups: African-American, Native-American, Latino/Caribbean-American, Asian/Pacific-American and/or Middle Eastern, LGBTQ+, and Different Abilities or Religious Diversity. For each group, I provided a case study (book evaluation), a comprehensive list of organizations, awards, reviews, key authors/illustrators, additional readings, an annotated top 5 book list, and an activity I completed related to the group.
